no let up from those disco deviants ! for number seven in the series the imprint is proud to release the first set of edits by the rather excellent situation. they first came to light after passing a cd to greg wilson after a gig. he was blown away by the quality of their edits and they instantly started to feature prominently in his sets to much acclaim. then greg included one of their cuts pushin on on his recent resident advisor mix and their talents were a secret no more as the interest flooded in. that track pushin on features on this release. instantly bringing to mind classics like remember me, unfinished sympathy and back to life, it really is a wonderful piece of music which moves both the body and the soul. on the flip, they rework jazzy dees wicked electrofunk track get on up into a dj-friendly dancefloor bomb. its an amazing debut and theres much more to come on their own imprint which is launching this year. enjoy the music

schieber continues its way into more easily grooving realms and comes up with these new, elegantly sparkling tracks by berlin resident drei farben house who has already caused a stir with his delicately balanced releases on force tracks and brut!. for schieber drei farben house gives two different insights into his understanding of house music: sander is more tracky and relies on looped chords which bring you closer to house heaven with every repetition, while manifold percussions together with the beats provide the necessary injection of funk. in contrast, anagram expands the frame of grooves and chords for finely ramified bell sounds and softly glowing melodies. for his remix of anagram house routinier prudo (moodmusic/dirt crew) reduces the melodies and displays a firework of funky sound bits - a perfect tighrope walk between minimal and house which combines the best of both worlds.
GROOVABILISME ( INCL. KREON RMX & LEMOS RMX)

played by villalobos & raresh !! what a way to start off 2009, a very strong ep delivered from catwash aka chris carrier & dj w!ld with remix from lemos & kreon. groovabilisme (original) hits with its’ crafty tech-house stomp, killer kick, and fun tribal groove. a very interesting concept on this production, as the deep grounding rhythm is super floor filling, yet the space between gives it the perfect air for the huge sub that just rolls this cut to the top of the charts. a sure shot for all players. kreon’s mix stylizes with more jack then jack himself. his vox arrangements give his cut a pop, lock, and rock it knack for the true school dancer. this remix takes any spot in a set, it’s got the capability to kick it big or be slow & deep, depending on how a player wishes to pitch it- a brilliant & effective production. lemos rocks the bells a for main lead rhythm, an excellent perspective to make for a clever & diversity ep. his mix creates a driving hypnotic bender with enough thump & smack to keep the bells intact and still lead the floor into a seductive sound scape of a moving utopia.

THE ROAD OF LIFE (INCL. QUIET VILLAGE RMX)

28.03.09
ltd backstock !!! label chief and king of nyc late night mythology, francois k returns with a bit of his patented deep space madness. starting with a tempo reminiscent of a 45 played at 33 1/3, a delicate plucked bell-synth bathed in a medium hall reverb leaves ethereal impressions and late night energy. as the melody drops a minor third, another enchanting counter melody joins the mix and adds a rather divine legato styling. after the lead fades out, a percussive interlude full of syncopated noise hits develops: leaving room for a break that reintroduces the main vibe and instills a sense of resolution. the flip carries a remix from quiet village, who has been starting deep space nights with positively solid performances. taking a more club-hyped approach, this rework pounds forward with a massive rumbling kick drum and an underlying noise wash. the main lead gets some serious filter and delay treatment making for a more progressive drive and a versatile dancefloor hook. tweaking things a bit at the break, the melody morphs into a sort of latin-minded groove with portamento glides, edited accents and sharper hits. still keeping the passion and charm alive, the new demise accents francoiss tasteful tune while boasting contemporary excitement

phantasma one is the first 12?,, of our second compilation, featuring”clapper” by tobias. and efdemin s “hope”. we are astonished and thrilled this split ep doesn t even sound like one but is of beautiful consistence and adequacy. “clapper” hypnotizes from the first second with a straight forward percussion rhythm which curls inescapable upwards even in the mind of an inattentive listener, pushing ahead with classic machine drums driven with a both glaring and harsh attitude. the crystal surface of efdemin s “hope” is woven into a plait of swelling basses and enriched with extensive spins of snare rolls and precious carpets of highlighted chords which seems to rise out of the drums which carry the whole track with slick efficiency. without a doubt this vinyl will be in every record case for a long time. grab your copy as long as there are some.

ricardo villalobos playlist!! the endless white of the far north. the opening melodies of adam marshalls >north at night< can be heard faintly over the whistling wind. a small black dot appears at the centre of the distant horizon. at first it appears to be still, but gradually we recognize movement. over the next few minutes the shape begins to grow until it has defined the image of a man walking towards us. as he approaches, the music grows clearer. like the warmth of the first sunlight >rose mountain< radiates its glow through the use of a flurry of rhodes electric piano chords. adams signature percussion permeates the dub and binds its elements into an infectious groove. >mfb flex< is the counter balance to the organic flow of the other cuts and molts the warmth into a techno roller designed for the long player mix. marshall said… >ive long been intrigued by that incredible tapestry of tundra and taiga which constitutes the arctic and sub arctic of our country. ive read about it, written about it and even pulled up my parka once and gone there, yet, like all but a very few canadians, ive had no real experience of the north. ive remained, of necessity, an outsider. and the north has remained for me a convenient place to dream about, spin tall tales about, and in the end, avoid<
following up his well-received works for statik entertainment, dublins leonid proudly lands at sistrum with three new tracks, crafted in his signature style of mature, classic depth. on the first track >sadim< a gorgeous bassline leads the way into gentle percussion and warm strings, as slightly acidic synth stabs take you back to the simpler days of dance. honest, unpretentious and deep. classic vibrations abound on the following cut >potsandpans<. the bassline sets the tone as sonic layers slowly build into a timeless groove that could easily go on forever. a beauty, by any standard. the ep closes with >shortwave<, a low-slung, shuffling groove, >shortwave< bumps along with the help of a round analog bassline and sharp claps, as shimmering chords swirl hypnotically. this one is destined to define many a late-night dancefloor moment

recorded at the bands own illegal combatant studios and the world renowned blasting room in ft. collins colorado, supporting caste is the fifth full length release from winnipegs political punks propagandhi. crafted in collaboration with bill stevenson (black flag, descendents, zeke, 7 seconds), this twelve song collection of boundless power and depth is a 50.000 watt forward thinking tip of the hat to giants such as voivod, rush, snfu, sacrifice, razor and guilt parade, that have gone before them. legendary and unrepentant residents of humankinds ideological peanut gallery, propagandhi does not disappoint with supporting caste, launching crude rockets into the heart of the prevailing order with meditations that range in focus from the humane slaughter and consumption of non vegans in an elaborate 18 course banquet (with wine pairings) to the apparent confusion of turning on the tv to watch a simple hockey game and having to wonder whether or not the nazis actually lost the war after all. supporting caste: 12 new laments, reveries and extrapolations from 4 visibly aging prairie skids who still cannot believe that of all the gin joints in all the galaxies in all the universes, they had to be born on.

as some of you may have already noticed, each release of mr raoul ks >peul< series features a specicific african instrument as its main sound. this time its the balafon - a kind of sticcado, which uses calabashes as resonancebodies and is often handcrafted by its player. here, the balafon is used as a rhythmic and a melodic instrument. after a long intro, the track gathers momentum and takes off for one of those long buildups. when the tension is released, in come the vocals! rising from a sparse chant to an energetic vocal that empathically pleads for unity. then you get your beats back and off goes another african-european joyride. for those of you who arent that much into vocals, a less vocalized mix is provided on the flipside. enjoy another mr raoul k special treat
after a 2 and a half year wait i finally managed to knock out a new single. its actually only my 3rd solo single ever. im very happy with it but ive got mixed feelings trying to describe it. you spend a year working on a track and a lazy shop worker or journalist will lump you into the >cosmicbalearicspacewhatever< straightjacket in 2 seconds, i can at least resist to do the same… anyway, two are quite psychedelic and one is some kind of cover version of one of my favourite villalobos trax. as you can hear ive had loads of fun fooling around in the studio playing the bass, percussion, drums(badly) and synths(even worse…)…
I LIKE EP

benny rodrigues produces a package that lives up to its name. ‘i like’ ep oozes influences from detroit techno and masters a current take on an age-old sound. ‘i like’ is delicious, wrapped in vintage sounds, it creates a true party atmosphere. ‘reel’ is coproduced with fellow dutch musician kapuchon. this is the sound of old school flavours, tearing into the past and the present and creating a winning formula. benny rodrigues was born and raised in rotterdam, and held residencies at some of holland most influentual clubs from the age of 17. he has toured with his musical hero, the legendary josh wink, been asked twice to perform at the detroit electronic music festival and headlined and closed the legendary dance-festivals dancevalley, mysteryland and extrema. somewhere along the road, benny met the rookie nick van de wall aka kapuchon (aka afrojack for his more mainstream appealing productions). they decided to combine their passion of music, resulting in coproductions for white noise records, spinclub records and others. this is benny rodrigues first release for the israeli imprint, be as one. his releases have begun to find allegiances with artists such as steve bug, radioslave and be as one’s own shlomi aber. being regularly charted and played by the best, benny is stepping into the global arena.
one year after his first ep on cargo edition, kostas tassopouls aka ekkohaus delivers to the label another incredibly strong release. the native-born greek, now living in berlin, has developed into an skilled producer who rides the line between techno and house. the combination of reduced, hypnotic and impulsive arrangements with a subtle deepness are typical of ekkohaus’ sound, demonstrated perfectly in the two tracks of this ep. “unsound” is characterized by his smooth, almost elegant rhythm. a repetitive meandering vocal sample weaves through the track, sounding familiar yet haunting at the same time. the track is already played by many key dj’s and is definitely to be heard more often within the next months to come. “moon talking” focuses on a more standard vocal which gives the track some pop-appeal. at the same time the introverted male vocal introduces a very catching harmony which will undoubtedly have a huge impact on the dancefloor. with this ep, ekkohaus cements himself as one of the modern-house talents.

dje lean aka confetti bomb has worked for a very well respected london record store for 9 years. hes also been a dj & live performer since the mid - nineties and has put these combined experiences into creating a unique form of stripped down, deep techno. his fever ep for london label underl_ne was featured on the uks bbc radio one and received extensive dj support at the highest level. he also features in the juno records 10th anniversary remix series with a peak time re work of carl craigs detroit experiment classic think twice. his debut ep for autoreply features an appearance from one of his favourite producers jerome sydenham who takes time out from his hectic dj schedule & ibadan label duties to provide us with a truly timeless mix of 10 second detox. with its persistent rolling percussion & warm deep pads the mix satisfies all senses. a short interlude follows this in the form of 5 second detox - created using an atari st & beat up yamaha sampler. this is the perfect tool to start or end your set with or to add your own beats to. the choice is yours. on the aa side we have 20 second detox - big sounding hooky techno featuring crisp percussion & analog synths incorporating long warm beatless periods with bursts of pounding drums. this track teases you until the mid section where it goes off all guns blazing. finaly detox is a lofi housy workout which has been described to us as troy pierce meets inner city...sounds interesting huh? drop the needle on it & make up your own mind.
